20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures,(A) and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”(B) 21 So God created(C) the great creatures of the sea(D) and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it,(E) according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.(F) And God saw that it was good.(G) 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”(H) 23 And there was evening, and there was morning(I)—the fifth day.

24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures(J) according to their kinds:(K) the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.(L) 25 God made the wild animals(M) according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds.(N) And God saw that it was good.(O)

26 Then God said, “Let us(P) make mankind(Q) in our image,(R) in our likeness,(S) so that they may rule(T) over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky,(U) over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created(V) mankind(W) in his own image,(X)
    in the image of God(Y) he created them;
    male and female(Z) he created them.(AA)

28 God blessed them and said to them,(AB) “Be fruitful and increase in number;(AC) fill the earth(AD) and subdue it. Rule over(AE) the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.(AF)

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.(AG) 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life(AH) in it—I give every green plant for food.(AI)” And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made,(AJ) and it was very good.(AK) And there was evening, and there was morning(AL)—the sixth day.

Footnotes

  1. Genesis 1:26 Probable reading of the original Hebrew text (see Syriac); Masoretic Text the earth

11 “I am(A) the good shepherd.(B) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.(C) 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.(D) Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd;(E) I know my sheep(F) and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father(G)—and I lay down my life for the sheep.(H) 16 I have other sheep(I) that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock(J) and one shepherd.(K) 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life(L)—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.(M) I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”(N)
