Newsy Email #218 - Saturday 27th March

Holy Week is very close now, the time when we follow the journey of our Lord in the closing days of his life and ministry on earth, and this year we will be starting Holy Week with a very special Easter Trail project, masterminded by Brenda, open from Palm Sunday in gardens near you!
You’ll find full details of the locations in our Easter Cards, but you can follow the Easter story from Palm Sunday to the Garden Tomb with different scenes in gardens around the village and in the churchyard.
Many thanks to all those who have created the props and built the scenes.

Then on Maundy Thursday we have a special evening service at 7pm, with the Last Supper in church followed by an outdoor ‘Gethsemane’ experience.

On Good Friday we have ‘An Hour at the Cross’ in the evening, at 7pm rather than an afternoon meditation.

On Easter Sunday we have services at 6:30am (Sunrise, outdoors), 9am, 11am, and 3pm. More details next week.

Please book your place for any of these services in Holy Week with [email protected].

Rolling away the stone in Calverley
Thank you so much to all of you who have volunteered to deliver Easter Cards, with a Holy Week message from Robin, and details of our Easter services and the Easter Trail. We have now achieved our aim of covering the whole village!
Cards can be collected from church tomorrow, and if you have any queries about your delivery, please contact [email protected].
We’d like to start delivering them next Monday 29th.
Many thanks to Richard Ellis who took the drone photo of Calverley for us.
There will also be a ‘Rolling away the Stone’ banner on the hedge outside.
As we enter Holy Week, we consider the ‘stone’ that may be the lostness and grief of the pandemic, or the difficulty of worshipping God in this current climate, and we ask Jesus to reach out and roll away our stone.

Easter Flowers
Church will be open on Saturday 3rd April between 9am - 12pm so that we can decorate it for Easter. Julie says anyone wishing to help will be most welcome to come along & join the Flower team. Donations of Spring flowers & greenery can be brought to Church during this time or on Friday 2nd between 10am - 11am.
We are always very grateful for donations to help keep the church looking beautiful in the green Flower Fund Box which is on the welcome table.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday, and we have a 9am Communion service with Jonathan playing hymns, and an 11am Family service.
Palm crosses will be distributed at both, and you don’t need to book a place.

Finally, it was announced last Sunday that I have been appointed Associate Priest for Gargrave, Coniston Cold, and Kirkby Malham, so I will be leaving St Wilfrid’s in June. I have been very happy indeed in Calverley over the last 3-4 years, and I’ll be sorry to go when the time comes, but God has called me very clearly to go and live and work amongst the people of Kirkby Malham, who have not had a resident priest for 3 years. I know that he has exciting plans for all of us, both out in the Dales and here in Calverley!

God bless you all,
Revd Sue
