Newsy Email #226 - Friday 14th May

Dear Friends,

We celebrated Ascension Day this week, the time when Jesus returned to his heavenly Father and the disciples moved into a new phase of ministry.
Welcome to Kim and Naomi, who have agreed to step into a new ministry by joining our online Morning Prayer team! You can tune in to Morning Prayer every weekday at 8am or any time after that on our YouTube channel, and if you missed it, you can catch up with Kim’s Ascension Day morning prayer here.

Very sadly, this is my last week in Calverley, but I do hope that as many of you as possible will be able to come to church on Sunday (either the 9am or 11am Communion) as we celebrate what has been a very special 3½ years.
The 11am service will be livestreamed to our YouTube channel here, but I’d love to see as many of you as possible in person, so do come if you can.
I have been so blessed to work alongside Phil, and now Robin, and it has been a huge privilege for me to have been at the heart of church life at St Wilfrid’s and to have got to know you all. Rural ministry out at Kirkby Malham will be very different, but God has clearly called me there, so I will go with joy, and confidence in our God who surprises us with new things and who prepares the way ahead for us.

My licensing will be on Monday 14th June at 7pm, by invitation only I’m afraid, but we are hoping to livestream the service. I’ll send more details when I have them.

Exciting times lie ahead for St Wilfrid’s too as we continue to re-emerge from Lockdown, ‘gather the flock’, and make plans for the future.
The outcome from last week’s interviews will be known in the next few weeks, so please continue to pray for the person whom God is calling to come and be our new Vicar.

Looking ahead, we will be celebrating Pentecost next Sunday with a special ‘Back to Church’ Sunday: a time to return, a time to re-discover, a time to start afresh. Many of us need a new start in life, and in our spiritual lives, after all that we’ve been through. Have a think, is there anyone you could invite?

Finally, we have our APCM (annual church meeting) on Monday 17th May at 7:30pm: A time to review with thanksgiving what we have achieved over the past year, to acknowledge with thanks the hard work of all who have made this possible, and to look forward with hope to the future.
Do come, this meeting is for the whole church family, not just the PCC!
The report booklet for the year 2020 can be read online here.

With my prayers, and my gratitude for your friendship,
Sue.

St Michael the Archangel, Kirkby Malham
