Newsy Email #248 - Thursday 4th November

Hello there,

The view from my study window is of Autumn hitting full swing – leaves are turning red, orange, and yellow over the churchyard and starting to drop.
Pumpkins are still lit in many windows of the village, and bonfires will light and warm many of us this weekend, often accompanied by Parkin (or at least, I hope so!).

Many of us feel mixed emotions as the nights draw in – the gathering gloom and the onset of winter chills are not often bringers of hope, but I hope we can find a lighter path though the darkness. There is, of course, the season’s accompanying cosiness as the heating eventually goes on, the many traditions, and the beauty of the trees’ last glorious showing. Perhaps though, the passing nature of this season reminds us that spring too will come in its turn.
We are, after all, an Easter people, a death-and-resurrection people, who for millennia have followed a Lord who faced a death greater than the dying of the year and rose again, and who promises a renewal of all things in the end.
In this spirit of hope I find I can face these annual turnings with peace, and take delight in the leaves, the fires, and the parkin as the comforts of a season that will pass.
I pray you all find joy in the delights of this season too.

With Every Blessing,
Rev’d Rob.
