Newsy Email #249 - Saturday 13th November

Hi Everyone,

This coming week has us gather for very two different events: Remembrance Sunday, and Pie & Peas Supper. One commemorates loss, reflects on sacrifice, and looks for meaning and hope. The other, perhaps, gives some of that meaning.

In a world where we can be so many things, let us be together, let us be a community. It is in part, I believe, for a world where gathering to connect and enjoy each other’s company, that those sacrifices were made.
There is such a tangible community spirit here in Calverley and at St. Wilfrid’s, and this week, in both moments of sadness and hope, it is that which I cherish.

I pray we all find a way to connect this week:
For joy, for comfort, for support, – for love.

God Bless,
Rev’d Rob

Remembrance Sunday Service
Our Remembrance Sunday Service will start at 10:30am in church.
Please only attend church if you have a seat booked.
This service will be livestreamed to our YouTube channel here, and also available to watch later.

If you would like to attend the Remembrance commemorations in Calverley Park before our service, please gather near the cenotaph at 9:45am.
After the commemorations, those attending our service can make their way to church. To confirm - there is no official parade walking down to church this year.

Musical Pie & Peas!
Tickets are still available for our Musical Pie & Peas evening next Tuesday 16th November, in church from 7pm until 9:30pm. To book a place, please email the [email protected], or speak to Sandra in Church.
We will require your food choice: Select either Pie & Peas or Jacket Potato with cheese. And to wash it down, soft drinks and tea & coffee will be available, or BYO alcohol. Tickets for this event are now available to collect.
Please speak to Sandra on Sunday morning.

This event is FREE, but donations towards the organ restoration fund will be gratefully accepted. We also require prizes for the raffle. If you can help, please let the office or Sandra know.

Ask Me Anything – Sunday 21st November
On Sunday 21st November it’s another ‘Ask Me Anything’ service!
Do you want to know anything about faith, the Bible, or the church?
Now’s your chance to ask it! There's a box at the back of church for you to pop all your questions in.

This service will also have live music from our fledgling worship group.
If you would like to join the group, contact [email protected].

Drive-In Carols
This year we're excited to be supporting the Drive-In Carols event that Wortley & Farnley Parish Church hold. This year it's on Saturday 19th December at 5:30pm & 7:30pm in the Dunelm carpark, Holbeck.
Our initial support will be a donation from our offerings made in church at the Advent Sunday Services. We hope you’ll lend your support by either contributing a donation or attending the event. And watch this space as help may be needed on the day. For more information about this event, please click here to watch their video.

Lifts
Do you need a lift to get to a church service? Can you offer a lift to a service?
Get in touch with the Parish Office and we’ll see if we can match people up!
Just contact the [email protected].

Thanks!
A big thank you to our Flower Team. Once again, the church is looking beautiful with all the Remembrance flowers on display.
