Newsy Email #250 - Friday 19th November

Hello Everyone,

I’m excited to be getting ready for our AMA services this Sunday.
I love the idea that our sermons are more than a one-way street, that our sermons and the stuff many of us get up to in home groups all makes us think and wonder. Our God is far too big to ever be fully understood, and seeing where other people wonder or struggle is such a blessing for each of us in our faith journey. Let me encourage you to write a question – I guarantee that if you’ve wondered it, someone else has too, and if we wrestle with them together we’ll all be richer for it.

So come and explore this Sunday, and see if you can stump the vicar! It’s not that hard – lots of the answers to the questions so far will start with ‘I don’t know’! But I can only promise that they won’t end there!

God Bless,
Rev’d Rob

Success!
We had two great events in church last week. First, our Remembrance Sunday Service went well and there was a good turn out from the community, the local Royal British Legion, and uniformed organisations.
Then on Tuesday, our Musical Pie & Peas event was a great social evening with beautiful organ music, good food and drink, a quiz and raffle. Many thanks to all who attended, and to those who helped make the events a great success.

Ask Me Anything!
Don’t forget this Sunday it’s an ‘Ask Me Anything’ service.
Now’s your chance to ask Rob anything about church, faith, the Bible or so on.

We will also have live music from our worship group at the Family Communion service. If you would like to join the group, please contact [email protected].

Lifts
Can you offer a lift to church? We would like to ensure there is no barrier stopping those that want to come to church on a Sunday.
If you can help, please contact [email protected], or add your name to the list at the back of church.

Drive-In Carols
This year we're excited to be supporting the Drive-In carols event organised by Wortley & Farnley Parish Church. It's happening on Saturday 19th December at 5:30pm & 7:30pm in the Dunelm carpark, Holbeck.
Our initial support will be a donation from our offerings made in church at the Advent Sunday Services, but if you’d like to contribute before then you can click here.

They also require stewards to help on the day. It would be great if we could send a team from Calverley Parish. If you can lend a hand, please contact their vicar, the Rev’d Claire Corley, at [email protected].
And for more information about their Drive-In carols, please click here to watch their video.

Volunteers
We're looking for volunteers to help in a couple of areas around church:
• Outside in the churchyard we need help with gardening. In particular, mowing the grass. This tends to be done on a Tuesday and Friday morning, but alternative days could be arranged.
• Inside church we need more helpers to clean. We currently have two teams, but more would be better to spread the work.
If you can spare a couple of hours a week or want to know a bit more about the jobs, please contact [email protected].

Advent Sunday – 28th November
Christmas is fast approaching, and that means Advent Sunday is not too far away. We have our usual Sunday services at 9am and 11am, then in the evening at 7pm we have a special Advent Praise Service.
There will be live music from the worship band, and mulled wine & mince pies after. Come and join us as we look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus.
Due to regulations, numbers attending are limited. To reserve a seat, please contact the [email protected] or speak to Sandra or Dan in church.
