Who Are We? - An Invitation To Dream

Hello again everyone, two Emails this week!

As you will have picked up, we’re in a season of asking who we are called to be and to become at Calverley Parish Church.
As part of that, I would like to extend an invitation to dream with us.
Being an ex-teacher, my chosen method is still to give out homework!

This morning we’ll be giving this out to everyone who can join us in the building, but I want to extend the invitation a little wider.
I would love for everyone who holds dear Calverley Parish Church to be a part of this journey, whether been with us many years or are totally new, those come every week or just every Christmas.
If St. Wilfrid’s matters to you, then your dreams matter to us.

As we seek to refine who we are now and who we are called to become, I believe that the hearts and minds of all God’s people are a great place to start looking. As we share our joys and hopes with each other, I believe we will see glimpses of who God is calling us to be.
To that end, I am setting the congregation 2 bits of homework this morning:

The first is simply this:
Three things I cherish about Calverley Parish Church are...
That’s it – just tell us three things you love about this church!

The second is an activity PCC have already done and enjoyed, writing a letter.
Imagine someone you love has just moved away and left the church, and five years later you are writing to them to fill them in. If everything you could possibly wish has come true at the church, what would that letter say?
Just one side of paper is fine, we can’t all cover everything, but I wonder what you would love to be able to put in that letter?
I encourage you to dream big – we often underestimate what we can achieve in 5 years, and we certainly underestimate what God can do!

Dear Hermione,

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since you left Calverley; you won’t believe what’s happened here at church. Since then...

Yours......

You don’t have to sign them, we’re quite happy for these to be anonymous, and we’ll be looking at them on the Vision Day with no names attached.
The deadline is Wednesday morning, 2nd February, and you can drop them through the Vicarage door, or email them to [email protected].
Apologies for the short notice – the plan was to get this started two weeks ago before Covid took me out of action. Given the timescale, we certainly don’t expect polish – a snapshot of what you love and what you hope our church could be will be a valuable piece of the puzzle.

I look forward to seeing what is on your hearts and exploring this together.

Yours with every blessing,
Rob
