National Heritage Events

This Sunday 11th is the first of our 2 Heritage Days. If you have not yet booked in for the 'Songs of Praise' performance of well-known hymns at 6pm, time is running out! If you love organ music, here is an opportunity to hear our organ, hand-built by J J Binns himself and recently restored to its former glory.
Bookings for our 'Song of Praise' service can be made with the [email protected]

If you would like to learn more about the restoration, then come at 3:30pm on Sunday and you can hear more about it from Mark Wood, of Peter Wood and Son, Organ Builders Ltd, who completed the restoration work and follow that with tea and cakes at 4:30pm.

On the following Sunday 18th September, we have our second Heritage Event from 2:30pm-4.30pm. St. Wilfrid’s is a very old church, so if you enjoy exploring ancient buildings and seeing the evidence of the many changes which have happened during its long life, come and join a guided Heritage Trail and learn more. If you prefer exploring at your own pace, pick up a leaflet and wander.

Do your children enjoy dressing up? We have dresses, cloaks, & tabards for you to borrow. Enjoy dressing as lords and ladies from times gone by!

And there’s more! If you have an interest in stained glass, then St. Wilfrid’s also has a wonderful collection of Victorian stained glass for you to look at:

However, our East window dates from mediaeval times and is worth a close examination. You may notice something rather strange about it. In it, you will see the Calverley family’s coat of arms and also that of King Edward III.

If you enjoy craft activities, why not use the materials available and create your own stained-glass window or maybe your own coat of arms?
