Unchanging Light in the Darkness

Change can be hard. Looking back can be easier than looking forward, it is sometimes forced upon us by change of circumstance in our personal lives and then things are never the same again. I have just been clearing some cupboards and drawers out and managed to send some stuff to the charity shop! It’s not easy getting rid of stuff that has been familiar and loved, but sometimes it is necessary to make way for the new.

We will have a different Government (again) this week. And so many things have changed (not for the better) with the economic crisis which affects us all, some more than others. As I write it has just been announced that we have a new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, lets pray things will get better and so give us hope for the future.

This weekend we put the clock back by one hour which means that we will have darker nights. It’s that time of year when many enjoy the things of Halloween. As a Christian I do not celebrate the dark side of life, I much prefer to focus on the light in the world, and in our lives, and of course for me this is Jesus, the Light of the World, who came into this world to dispel the darkness.

The one thing in the life of a Christian that does not change is God.
He was, He is, and He is to come. What a reassuring truth this is in a world which is ever changing and in our own lives which are ever changing.
Nothing can remain the same only God, now this does give me hope for the future.

When I think of the earlier generations of people who have known God, then think of my own faith and how I know God, and then think of my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that they too can know this unchanging God just like me – wow, it’s amazing, God is amazing.

Blessings,
Pauline

Calverley's First Beer Festival!

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.
Then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
(Proverbs 3:9-10)

What an amazing event it was! Over 300 people passed through our door and over 1000 pints of Real Ale were consumed throughout the day!
It was a great success - we achieved our goals and exceeded our expectations!
Financially the church was gifted with £3,700 by the generous giving from those who attended and those who sponsored a barrel.
Over 40 volunteers from the church and the community gave their time and talent to help make the day run smoothly. A huge Thank You to all involved on behalf of St. Wilfrid’s for your commitment and support, you made our first Beer Festival a joyous and prosperous occasion! Plans are already being made for next year’s festival and details will be released soon.
Cheers!
Nicola, Jon, and John.
