Val’s Travels

In May I went to visit my daughter who lives in Bulgaria, you know that Eastern European country near Russia, where people talk different to us!

Bulgaria is one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to many - Switzerland, Italy, and Spain. It’s got the usual big cities, but get out into the countryside, the grass is still green, the sky still blue, the sun still warms the land, and the rain still wets Gods wonderful nature all around. I had time to sit and reflect what a wonderful world the Lord created for us. I even saw the beautiful Blue Danube (even though it looked dirty and polluted) and the Black Sea which was blue.

The people are friendly and kind, some speak a little English but most couldn’t grasp my northern accent, but we usually made each other understand what we meant. I met a few Bulgarians that had lived in England, and when retired returned home. Incidentally, Bulgaria is not part of the European Union and has borders just like us and although the price of goods is cheaper, their cost of living is rising as well.

As we travel around this world, let us take in its beauty and all that it offers us. We remember the wonderful places the Lord has created for the ones he placed there to live their lives. Let us respect all the different lands.
Let us breath in its beauty and remember we are only visitors to this wonderful beautiful world the Lord created.

I’m home now but rested and back in the place the Lord wants me to be, and ready for the next part of my lifes journey. Amen.

Val

Sunday 2nd July
Tomorrow, Lizzie will be with us! We’ll be celebrating by getting together after The 11 for a picnic - weather permitting we’ll sit outside.
Before then, in each service there will be a chance to ask Lizzie questions about how she came to be the Reverend Lizzie Reynolds, Assistant Curate in Calverley. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming her.

Wardens – Farewell!
Officially our 2 fabulous wardens Dan and Sandra have finished their role after 4 and 7 years respectively. Their steadfast and faithful service has been a huge blessing to St. Wilfrid’s - not just keeping everything ticking along, but also managing an interregnum and helping Rob as he acclimatises, both staying on an extra year to help with this. Their leadership and service has been exemplary, and they will be much missed in their roles. We’ll be saying an official farewell at both services on 9th July - do come along!

Team Warden – Hello!
As we’ll be running without wardens for a period, we’re starting ‘Team Warden’, who will oversee the smooth running of services on a Sunday morning. More details about how this will work will be coming soon.
