The Rest is... Rest

I hope you’ve enjoyed the breadth of people writing our little thought for the week here, but you’ll have to do without them for just a little bit. Like many of the activities at church, we’ll be scaling back for a few weeks, so I’m giving them all the summer off!

I know many of find it hard to rest, to take time off and out, especially in the summer – if we have kids who suddenly reappear at home but jobs that don’t stop, full time entertaining takes a lot of energy (if you need a break, have a look at the details for our Summer Holiday Club below!).

I noticed this week, staring at the 10 commandments on the front wall at church, that the obe which takes by far the most room is about Sabbath.
Rest is so important for us that when God wanted to boil everything down to just 10 instructions on some stone, he spent most time telling us to have some time off, to being present, to seek joy and leisure instead of work.
Increasingly science is showing just how much wisdom there was in that proto-weekend.

However your summer looks, I hope you manage to find some time to rest, to do whatever it is that recharges you. (That’s me in the picture – if I must be in the garden then a hammock, a book, and a beer are a pretty restful combo for me!).

See you on the far side.
Every blessing,
Rob

Summer Slow Down
Schools out for summer! That means from now until Sunday 3rd September there’ll be only one service at 10am with coffee served afterwards.
This week, Lizzie will be preaching, Robs leading, Jon’s on the organ and the band are playing! After the service it’s our Shared Lunch.
All are welcome and we’d love to see you!
As the team take some holidays it may feel like church activities are slowing down, but we remember that God is still working in and through his people.
There might not be as much to report in the weekly news letters, but we’ve plenty planned for September when we’ll all be well rested & refreshed ready for the new season at St. Wilfrid’s.
