Newsy Email #169 - Tuesday 30th June

Dear Friends,

I hope you are keeping well this week. A lot has been happening for all of us.
I just want to touch base about a few things:

Firstly, after tomorrow morning's service of Holy Communion on the website, we will be changing to have regular Daily Morning Prayer on a Wednesday instead, via our YouTube channel. It has been lovely to see how people have responded to having prayer online and we’d like to continue this. So, Pauline will be leading our prayers on a Wednesday morning each week on YouTube instead.

Next, you will probably know that the government has stated that Churches and other places of worship can have public worship from this Saturday (4th July).
In actual fact, we are still waiting on official guidance from the Diocese on what that might look like for us. While the government has put out some guidance, some more planning is required. What I would like to do for now is to extend the private prayer time to include Sunday morning, from 9am till 11am.
This means that people can come to pray, rather than worship, and we can keep our infection control measures in place. Therefore, our Church building will still be open for private prayer from 11am - 1pm every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but now also from 9am - 11am on Sunday mornings.
I think as we prepare to move back into corporate worship over the coming months, prayer should be our primary focus.

Finally, as a Church we are still supporting WYDAN, working with destitute asylum seekers, as we did in 2018 when we hosted them in our Church.
As I’ve mentioned in previous Newsy Emails, the project is now based in one location due to COVID-19, but over the next 2 weeks we are supporting them by providing evening meals, shopping, and a daily allowance.
The daily allowance is £10 per person for a week, with 13 residents in total.
As a PCC, we are committing to supplying this. However, we ask that people might make a contribution towards the £260 it costs by making a donation to general funds through our Online Giving portal (calverley.church/giving).
We also need to cover one more shopping trip next Monday. I’d be very grateful if someone could reply and offer to do that, although I will otherwise.
Many Thanks for supporting this valuable ministry, showing God’s love to vulnerable people at this time.

Blessings,
Phil
