Countdown To Christmas

Dear friends,

Does anyone else feel that we could be forgiven for thinking that Christmas is almost upon us? As we listen to Christmas carols playing in supermarkets while searching for bread, cereals, and such, we see shelves full of Christmas cards, shiny wrapping paper, gifts, and glittering baubles. Then, when we get home, it’s mixing Christmas puddings and baking cakes, writing cards and wrapping gifts which fills our time. Of course, it’s natural to get so caught up in everything the season has to offer but it’s also easy to forget that, in actual fact, Christmas is still a month away.

I don’t know about you but I find it can be difficult to listen to that ‘still, small voice’ reminding us that this Sunday is Advent Sunday, the beginning of a time of expectation, reflection, and hope, when we look forward to the anniversary of Christ’s birth. Each Sunday in Advent is a reminder of God’s faithfulness, a chance to hear the stories of Abraham and God’s people, the prophets, especially Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Mary, who responded to God’s call to be the mother of his Son. But there was also an eagerness, a looking ahead to explore this idea.

This month, during all the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations, may you find glimpses of love and peace to cheer and encourage you, secure in the knowledge that in Jesus we have joy and hope for the future. And enjoy the fun and excitement of Christmas when it finally comes!

With every blessing,
Brenda

Sunday 27th November
This Sunday see’s the beginning of Advent. We have a special joint service of Confirmation & Holy Communion at 10am with Bishop Arun (the new Bishop of Kirkstall), confirming nine members of our congregation. Do join us and support all the candidates on their next step in their journey of faith.

Then at 5pm we have our Advent Praise service. Mark the start of the season by giving praise to God at this time of expectation and preparation.
Afterwards, mulled wine & mince pies will be served. All are welcome!

Prayers
Please remember in your prayers the families of Joan Kitson and David Badger.
Joan was a much-loved, long-standing member of our church family, she went to be with our Lord last weekend at the grand age of 100.
David died peacefully at home earlier this week aged 86, slipping away quietly with his wife beside him. He was a faithful servant of the church and an ex-warden. Rest in Peace, Joan and David, and Rise in Glory.
The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
If you would like anyone remembering in prayer, please let Rev. Rob know.

Cleaning Church
An additional team is needed to go on the church cleaning rota.
It's light cleaning consisting of vacuuming & dusting that would need doing every few weeks. Also, we are putting together a list of names to go on a rota to sweep the stone floor in church. Ideally it requires doing after coffee shop and before the Sunday services. Please let Sally know if you can help with either one of these. Thank you.

We're grateful to those who have committed to new or increased financial giving. We recognise that with current increases in the cost of living that it is a difficult time to be asked to give.
