Thanks To God

As we approach the season of Lamentation let us not forget that;

‘This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.’.

Words from Psalm 118, which I like to follow it up with…

‘Loving Lord, Fill us with your Life-giving, Joy-giving, Peace-giving presence. So that we may praise you with our lips, and all day long with our lives.’

Words of praise and thanks for the goodness of the Lord. We have so much to be thankful for even though officially spring has not sprung, the thermometer is on the up, the birds a welcoming the dawn and praising God with their constant chatter, the gardens are starting to ‘come out’ with daffs and croci emerging from their hibernation, the woods are coming alive with glimpse of greenery poking through to this pleasant land.

And the days are getting lighter and longer, early risers see the dawn breaking on the horizon preparing the way for the sun to slowly come out, waking up the earth to another day to be thankful to God for.

The night has passed, and the day lies upon before us, let us pray with one heart and mind and give thanks to our God. As we rejoice in this gift of a new day, so may the light of your presence O God set our hearts on fire with love for you, now and always.
Amen.

John Corbin

Sunday 26th February
This morning we have Azaria Spencer visiting us. Some of you will know her as she is our Church Mission Society partner. Working in Guatemala, she goes alongside and disciples’ at-risk children & young adults and empowers them to pursue their dreams. She’ll be telling us more about her calling at 9:15 and 11am. Come along, see what she has to say, and join us in giving her a warm welcome! Please remember in your prayers Azaria and her boyfriend, David, as they visit England and the ongoing work they do in Guatemala for CMS.

Ask Me Anything!
Next Sunday 5th March will be this term’s AMA slot, with your chance to ask your questions in both services. We all know I don’t have all the answers, but I cherish wrestling with the questions of our faith together.
As ever, do feel free to just turn up and ask, but if you send in your questions to [email protected] in advance, I and the rest of the preaching team can do a bit of reading, thinking, and praying in advance.
Since last we met, there’s been lots that might raise questions.
We’ve had confirmations (what’s that all about) from a Bishop (who?), explored Ruth with a focus on steadfast love, migrants and foreigners, and God’s providence. We’ve had Christmas and advent and all the stories and dramas therein. However long you have been with us, or with God, our questions are part of how we grow as a community. Either drop me an email, or pop a bit of paper in the basket at the back of church.
Thanks, Rob.

Prayers
Don’t forget to let us know if you need prayer.
We can include individuals in our intercessions on Sunday morning.
If you would like to be prayed for, you can write your request on a tag and hang it on the prayer tree in Church, email [email protected], or just have a word with us on Sunday mornings.

Communion At Home
When Jesus first modelled the spiritual tradition of communion, he did it in someone’s home. If you are unable to get to church and would like to receive Holy Communion in your home, we have a team that can offer it.
In the first instance please let Rob, John Corbin, or Sally know.

Easter Choir
We are hoping to get the choir together for our Easter Service!
If you're interested, please contact Jonathan Lacey ([email protected]).

Lent Course - Rhythm of Life
Beginning in The Barn on Tuesday 28th February, 7-8:30pm, and running for 5 weeks, this Lent course will offer an opportunity for us to re-align and keep Christ at the centre of our daily lives. Through practical commitments, opportunities for mutual support, and recommended resources.

“As Christians, we believe Jesus should be at the heart of our rhythms of life, whatever our circumstances. This will have a far-reaching impact on our own wellbeing and the good of others – on our loving, living and learning.
I would like to invite you to join the diocesan ‘Rhythm of Life’ venture.
This will involve individual commitments, accessing resources and mutual support. Some key areas will be given special attention: praying, encouraging, sharing, reflecting, celebrating, resting, and creating.”
- The Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds

If you would like to join the course group, please contact [email protected]

What’s the Story About Easter?
Our next occasion for inviting children from both our local primary schools into church will be a Monday and Tuesday towards the end of term to tell them the Easter story. However, to give the children the best possible experience, we would like to enlist some more volunteers for our 'What’s the Story? team.
Do you enjoy telling dramatic stories and helping children with crafts?-
Then this is for you! If you would like to find out more or join the team, please contact Brenda Pickard ([email protected])

Easter Eggs
Real Easter Eggs are available in church to purchase for £5.
These are the only Fairtrade eggs to include a copy of the Easter story in the box. Buy one for family, friends, or donate one to the food bank.

Lost Property
Is on a table at the back of church. Any items not claimed will be disposed of at the end of the month.

APCM
Due to the coronation of The King, the date of our APCM has changed to Tuesday 2nd May. Please arrive in church for 6:50pm for a prompt start at 7pm.

Bell Ringing
Have you heard the bells ringing at Calverley Parish Church? Have you ever wondered how they are rung? We're a small team and would like more people from the village and locally to join us, and if we have enough interest we hope to 'Ring for the King' for the Coronation in May.
Small groups can also visit the ringing room to learn more about bellringing.
There is no obligation to start ringing - just come along to see what we do!
Visits will be on our usual Thursday evening practice but do need to be pre-booked. We can take no more than 4 people at a time (over 11s only and under 18s must be accompanied by a parent).
Interested? Please contact the Ringing Team via [email protected]
