Love For All: Hatred For None

Dear friends,
I hope that you enjoyed a blessed and joyful Easter!
Isn’t it wonderful to be able to celebrate this festival with friends & family.

And speaking of friends, some of you will know that a group of us from Calverley Parish have been meeting for several months now with Ahmadi Muslim ladies from Bradford whose belief in promoting the welfare and care of community through love and peace was the inspiration behind their original invitation to us. During our meetings, we have shared our beliefs, rejoicing in the many similarities between our journeys of faith, and developing mutual respect and understanding for our differences.
The last time we met, we shared experiences of faith and fasting, and a looking forward to Easter and Eid-al-Fitr. Although we don’t share the same faith, we find that we can appreciate together such times of prayer and reflection and the celebrations which follow. We have made new friendships, sharing our hopes and fears for our families and our world and this friendship has led to an invitation to attend:

The Big Iftar
The holy month of Ramadhan is a blessed period for Muslims all over the world as we fast from dawn to sunset. It's also a month of self-reflection, spiritual development, prayers, compassion, charity, and neighbourliness.
In this spirit, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Bradford South Branch is holding a 'Big Iftar' event which is a celebration of breaking the fast.
Last Saturday, Sandra and I were privileged to attend ‘The Big Iftar’ where we were warmly welcomed with good wishes for Easter and we shared greetings with other visitors and our hosts before the breaking of the day’s fast with dates and a drink while prayers were said in the worship area.
We learned more about Ahmadiyya Muslims and were particularly interested to learn that the Ahmadiyya motto, 'LOVE FOR ALL: HATRED FOR NONE', is taken from the teaching of Jesus. After worship, everyone sat down to share a delicious meal together. We left the mosque with good wishes ringing in our ears and promises to meet again which we shall very soon.

So let me finish with wishing Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim friends as they come to the end of Ramadhan and celebrate Eid-al-Fitr this weekend, and a hope that this new relationship will continue to flourish.

With prayers and blessings,
Brenda
