Calverley Beer Festival Reflections

A few years ago, Pauline and I were blessed when we were invited on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. One of the many sites of interest we visited was Cana in Galilee where according to Johns Gospel, Jesus performed his first miracle turning 120 gallons of water into wine at a wedding feast.
I was reminded of this last Saturday when serving at our Annual Beer Festival which unlike the wedding in Cana, we did not run out of wine, mainly because we didn’t have any! But what we did have was plenty of beer... 70 gallons of the stuff!

The availability or not of wine or beer did not detract from the similarities of Jesus attending a wedding feast and our Beer Festival. In essence, it was a bringing together of the sacred and the secular - a real bringing together of the community and church fully inclusive, lively, joyous, laughter, children playing, dogs barking, friends well met, and there in the midst of it all... was Jesus... in his church with his people, joining in with the great dance.

We were all Blessed,
John Corbin

Sunday 15th October
Services are back to the usual times of 9:15 and 11am tomorrow morning.
Refreshments are served between services. We hope to see you there!

Parking on Sunday Mornings
Please note parking directly outside church grounds on a Sunday is reserved for those with limited mobility. The cones outside church should not be moved as these keep the dropped kerb clear for access. If the dropped kerb is not accessible it can prevent people attending church. If you are able, please park in the school playground. Thank you.

Generosity Forms
It’s not too late to fill in one of our Generosity Forms - you’ll find them at the back of church or here online to print at home. How can you contribute to the ministry of St Wilfrid’s, in time and service, in prayer, and financially?
Of course, there’s never a deadline for generosity. Hand it in whenever you are next with us, or chat to Rob or Lizzie. Thank you!

Bodies to Medical Science
After conversations coming from our 'What Are We Thankful' moment, several people wanted to know more about how to donate their bodies to medical research after their deaths, to help train future medics. For more information about this, please Call Sarah Wilson at Leeds University on 0113 343 4297 who can send you a booklet and talk you through the process.

Remembrance Sunday 2023
Our Annual Remembrance Sunday Service will take place on 12th November.
Join us at 10:30am in church as we give thanks and ensure the sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten. At this special service we welcome local members of the Royal British Legion, young people from our uniformed organisations, and the local councillors. No booking required.

Christmas Tombola
Susan & David Jubb are holding their annual Christmas tombola in church on Saturday 18th November to raise money for church funds. They're looking for donations of prizes. All prizes should be Christmas related, so Christmas foods like puddings, biscuits, cakes and chocolate, toiletry/beauty sets, maybe Christmas socks and gloves, you get the idea! We ask that shelf-life dates are long and items are in new condition please. Susan & David also require some help on the morning to serve refreshments. If you a can lend a hand, please email [email protected]

Lost Property in Church
We have a man’s black jacket and a children’s scooter. Please let us know if they’re yours.

Please send any items to be included in our Weekly Family Newsletter to:
